Arup K. Chatterjee has been elected Secretary of the International Small Island Studies Association (ISISA) for the 2026–2030 term. The election was held at the general meeting of the Islands of the World conference in Jaeundo, Shinan County, South Korea, on 9 July 2026 — the first ISISA Executive Committee election since Zadar, Croatia, in June 2022.
ISISA is the leading global association dedicated to island studies, bringing together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers engaged with the geographical, cultural, and developmental questions facing small islands worldwide. As Secretary, Chatterjee joins the Association’s four-member office-bearer team and will contribute to ISISA’s work in administering the membership association, planning future Islands of the World conferences, and guiding the development of island studies as a research field.

The election was conducted by a Nominating Committee comprising Gerard Persoon and Genève Phillip-Durham. In his remarks, the new ISISA President thanked outgoing President Dr Laurie Brinklow for her tremendous service to island studies, along with the rest of the outgoing Executive Committee, for their contributions over the past term.
